Welcome to our School

Lancaster Steiner School’ is now registered as LISAL: Lancaster Independent School for Alternative Learning – in order to accurately represent ourselves to the local and wider community, The Lower School continues to follow the Waldorf Curriculum and be a member of Waldorf UK. We are keen to foster relationships with others in our community who are also seeking to educate children with our core values at their heart. We share our site with Appledore Montessori Nursery and welcome Forest School practitioners to deliver weekly outdoor learning.

Our values remain the same: developing the whole child, balancing the head, heart and hands, teaching creatively through the imagination, and fostering a sense of wonder and responsibility for the natural world. Also in common, is our belief that children should be allowed to be children, to grow at their own pace, and develop into well rounded human beings, confident in themselves and their own abilities – who can thrive, wherever their path takes them.

We offer a gentle and natural alternative to mainstream education. Instead of testing and targets, we offer a nurturing environment with small classes where each child receives individual care and attention. We teach children the skills they need in English and Maths, but we also give them a love of knowledge and room for their imaginations to grow.

We cater for children up to age 11. Since collaborating with Appledore Montessori Nursery Ltd from June 2022, we provide alternative, holistic education for children from 9 months to 5 years, Transition Class (5-7 yrs) and Lower School (7-11 yrs). We are the only Steiner school in the North West of England and families travel to us from across the region to give their children the most special gift that we can offer – a lifelong love of learning. Please see us featured again this year in The Green Parent Guide for Alternative Learning

Please come along to our Open Days and Public Events. See our News and Events Page for details.
